The odyssey of the species.
The monolith.
Some say our times are funny. Others say it’s sad, distressing… A time of doubts, of loss of meaning, a time of big questions, with, consciously or not, a judgement that makes it impossible to avoid retrospection.
Where have we come from? Where are we going? It is at least possible to answer the first question. From our rough and generous Earth, with the help of a little miraculous water and a few primitives, through the chlorophyll stage, here we are. Gatherers, inventors, explorers, farmers, warriors, creators, polluters, preachers, warmers… and thinkers. Where are we going, at a time of cataclysmic ecological announcements, disappearing or hysterized religions and our nuclear facilities? For me, it’s a real odyssey, a little Ulysses lost on a sea he doesn’t know which way to go.
I wanted to build a photographic narrative in 5 acts: the base of our land, the water source of life, the nourishing tree, thoughts and beliefs and the monoliths. An obvious nod to Kubrick’s film, where those who wish to follow me in this narrative can construct their own interpretation. On my site, the 5 acts are richer, with a few texts or quotations.
Since this is an odyssey, a chronology, the photographs are presented in an orderly fashion. Right up to the “monoliths”, these unreal images of today that I wanted to bear witness to our battered world, and which I hope will open doors to your own possibilities…
