My Corona Diary (Humor is the politeness of despair)

The cycle of works grouped together in the series entitled “My Corona Diary” was born on the first day of the confinement period due to the Covid19 epidemic.

A work was posted daily on the Instagram account @sabinepigalle by commenting in a playful and recreational way the news day by day, in reaction to the Mélancovid, to the climate of astonishment and gloom that gripped everyone during this very special period.

In line with her artistic vocabulary, the artist has recycled the paintings of the old masters by placing them in our daily lives, putting them in touch with new habits and practices linked to Covid19.

The burlesque tone, often ironic, works like a catharsis with the aim of combating with laughter the painful situation of anxiety and doubts about the future.

The earthiness of the comic style and black humor makes fun of the absurdity of the situations generated by this crisis, and this language is basically a form of resistance to the climate of heavy uncertainty, and an exhortation to resilience in the face of a collective test involving in addition to the question of public health, the economy, the social relations, the mentalities.
