Agnès Varda died last week. In the spring 2016 in Brussels, the city where she was born, she presented a great retrospective, including her photographic work.
Here is the subject we devoted to her!
Potatoes & Cie (Patates & compagnie) exhibition presented at Ixelles Museum invites you to dive into the imaginative and sensitive universe of the artist Agnès Varda, winner of an Honorary Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. In the town of her childhood, the exhibition offers, for the first time in Belgium, an unconventional visual journey through installations, photographs and videos. Her prolific work mixes with humour childhood memories and recent creations that meet halfway between fantasy and reality.
The proximity of still and motion pictures, images of the earth, wind and beaches, allow visitors to glide from one to the other and by chance come across random signposts and potatoes on the paths of my imagination. The images I offer bring back memories of my childhood, by the unforgettable ponds of Ixelles with their duck cabins.
