Straight out the Hood
Straight out the Hood is a long-term documentary project that explores the darker and lesser-known side of the street, from sensitive neighbourhoods to deprived areas.
In this series, I go beyond the classic postcard images and familiar streets we all know, exploring the rich history and diversity of the urban fabric. By documenting the lives of gang members, mafia figures and other criminal organisations, I seek to reveal the complexity of their lives and their everyday realities, capturing spontaneous moments that often provoke reflection rather than providing obvious answers.
This strong, hard-hitting look at this community gives a voice to those who are too often invisible. I highlight the poignant contrast between the beauty and harshness of existence, encouraging awareness of the cruel realities of everyday life.
Poverty and street violence are two major problems in our society that have a huge impact on the population.
These two problems are closely linked, as poverty can be a contributing factor to the increase in street violence. People living in poverty are often forced to live in deprived neighbourhoods where crime rates are high. Young people from these areas may be tempted to join gangs or engage in criminal activity to survive.
