For the next couple of weeks I will be working on a project for the Guardian and GQ Germany about Everest climbers. For this I will have to trek up to Everest Base Camp 5350 m and will stay there for a few weeks. For once we aren’t able to travel together and Braschler/Fischer is unfortunately reduced to Braschler. Besides the fact that Turkish Airline decided to leave all of my luggage in Istanbul and me arriving in Kathmandu with nothing else than my camera and the clothes I was wearing, all went well so far. Me and my friend Rob, who is joining me, have started the long and strenuous walk up to Everest BC on Sunday. Right now we are in Namche Bazar (3450m) acclimatizing to the altitude and to freezing cold rooms in simple lodges.
Arriving in Lukla by helicopter and checking our gear. All of the bags are mine, except Rob’s red rucksack, and everything has to go up to Base Camp. Thank god there are yaks and porters…. (Photo 2)
On the way from Monjo to Namche, we had to cross one of Nepal’s highest hanging bridges. It crosses more than 200 meter above the valley of the Doban river. Crossing isn’t much of an issue unless a train of yak’s enters the bridge from the other side when you are in the middle. (Photo 3)
