Since 1955, the Award Nadar Gens d’images has been awarded to a remarkable book devoted to old or contemporary photography published in France during the year. It is awarded in partnership with the BnF and the Nicéphore Niépce museum, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture. The works integrate the collections of the BnF thanks to legal deposit. Escourbiac the printer is also a partner of the Nadar award.
The book Leaving and Waving, winner of the 2021 Nadar Award, brings together the photographs Deanna Dikeman took of her parents as they said goodbye over a period of 27 years. Each time she would get back on the road after visiting them, Deanna Dikeman pointed her lens at her parents. What started with a quick snapshot in 1991 has turned into a ritual over the years. Leaving and Waving is a touching exploration of family and the passage of time.
