The exhibition « Personal Disclosure » by Yoram Roth is on display at CWC gallery. The exhibition includes more than sixty new works by the Berlin-based artist that have never been exhibited before. This show is the artist’s first solo exhibition worldwide.
Various materials have merged into unique pieces by Yoram Roth, and 300 years of art-and aesthetic history become independent works through the artist’s subjective eye, which context is newly defined through this view. The works presented in »Personal Disclosure« display their own picture language in an impressive manner. Yoram Roth rethought the medium of photography by the use of a surprisingly new image layout. The artist integrated a third dimension into the previously two dimensional discipline, which channels the attention of the viewer. The subject of the body, captured within movement, is detailed in staged positions – displayed as a symbiosis of its environment in the corpus of the room. The shown sceneries in almost life-sized pictures center the bodies, which are partially wrapped in opulent fabrics, in an abstract, but theatric room with carefully arranged still lives.
The ease of the bodies swinging – visibly implemented in the series »Brunhilde & Gunther« – opposes the imminent physicalness of the exclusive and high-quality presentation of the works. The nudes are lined in welded steel frames and unfold their full effect via two forms of presentation in one work: Diasec and Archival Pigment Print. The visual content that is displayed as Diasec is similar to a technique called Sfumato used in the renaissance – an effect that is generated through the non-glossy, slightly opaque acrylic glass of the Diasec. Within the Diasec, there are isolated, recessed and framed extracts of Archival Pigment Print, that are coated with wax. In that way Yoram Roth places partial fragments of the motif, to channel the attention of the viewer, produces places of effect and often highlight what would otherwise be left unregistered. Those rectangles of clarity function as physical manifestation of the ability of the artist to call the viewers’ attention within large scale pictures and simultaneously enable the exploration of both the great and the intimacy within one picture. As a result the surface of a skin becomes an enthrallment, the physiology of a back of the hand evolves into an aesthetic formation and the loins become abstract, self-contained massifs.
