The second roundtable hosted by Yves Legoff, a journalist for the magazine Mécènes (Patrons). The subject is festivals that can exhibit and potentially produce photographs, as seen through four examples.
Aurélie de Lanlay, Director of the Rencontres d’Arles
Founded in 1970, the Rencontres d’Arles has stood the test of time. Like every festival, the Rencontres is part of a time and place, and organizes not only exhibitions, but parties, seminars and discussions. In September, the festival developed many educational activities, including the creation of games and digital applications, with the support of the Total Foundation.
The goal of partnerships with patrons is to generate and carry out joint projects related to photography. Obviously, they are looking for long-term partnerships (three-year contracts), to ensure their clarity and a real ability to drive programming. They can be cash donations for exhibition and prizes (Fondation LUMA), but also donations in kind: camera loans (Olympus), making cars available (BMW), digital applications (SFR), mascots (Gare & Connexions). But in every case, what’s important is the trust and loyalty that allow for the human adventure. The contributions of patrons represent around 20% of the budget.
