PHOTO15, a photo auction, set to support the creation of The AIDS Monument in the City of West Hollywood, will be held at Milk Studios (855 N. Cahunega Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. 90038) on Thursday, October 1 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. Proceeds from the reception and auction will benefit a national AIDS Monument in West Hollywood Park in 2017, which is part of the City of West Hollywood’s 85 million dollar renovation to West Hollywood Park.
The PHOTO15 Event in conjunction with Paddle 8 will auction off preeminent photographic works. Art curators from premier galleries collaborated with private collectors to assemble a unique and provocative collection. The live auctions will launch on Paddle 8 to raise funds for The Monument starting on Thursday, September 17 at 12:00pm PST. Bidders will have the opportunity to view and place bids at the event and simultaneously with bids from around the world using Paddle 8.
PHOTO15 has engaged the participation of world-renowned photographers for this auction including Jeff Wall whose “Dead Troops Talk” photograph sold for $3.6 million. Other famous photographers who have donated works to the Foundation include – Arthur Elgort with his candid image of super model Gia celebrated Photographer Catherine Opie’s “Candlelight Vigil 1989” and famed photographer and illustrator Antonio Lopez iconic image of “Grace Jones with First Album. Both Gia and Antonio died of AIDS in the 1980s.
Designed by Daniel Tobin of the Urban Art Projects, The AIDS Monument will have a large digital component offering an integrated technology both on-site and online offering an overall immersive experience for users. Visitors will be able to upload their own memorials including stories, videos, and images of lost ones as well as honor caregivers, community leaders, and activists that continue to fight against HIV/AIDS. The AIDS Monument will act as an information center to the public providing links to information on HIV/AIDS prevention and education while also raising awareness about the history and culture of the disease. The Monument will serve as a physical and digital commemoration encouraging conversation while removing the stigma that HIV/AIDS still carries.
