The Helio association presents in Tourcoing the photographic exhibition Elles sur la photo, portraits of women photographed by 4 women photographers: Melania Avanzato, Anaïs Boudot, Louise Narbo and Rima Samman.
The exhibition can be seen at the Nadar gallery of the André Malraux media library in Tourcoing. The portrait, privileged theme of photography, can generate in the viewer immediate reactions of fascination, emotion, surprise, questioning… But what does a portrait really tells us beyond appearances? What do the portraits of women, taken by women, brought together in this exhibition tell us? Melania Avanzato focused on underrepresented sportswomen in essentially male disciplines, Anaïs Boudot sheds light on Picasso’s muses, whose personal artistic careers suffered from the encroaching shadow of the sacred monster, while Louise Narbo and Rima Samman question their identity and their origins by creating autobiographical portraits or by intervening in family photos. Each of these artists, with very varied techniques and subjects, thus offers us a reflection on the status of women in our societies and in history, small or large, and also invites us, in a mirror effect, to a rich dialogue.
