Until yesterday, Art Brussels, one of Europe’s leading contemporary art fairs was happening. Now in its 40th year, Art Brussels intends to live up to its reputation as a major platform for contemporary art. Since its creation in 1968, Art Brussels has led the way in presenting established artists, encouraging emerging talent and facilitating dynamic exchanges between artists, collectors, gallery owners and art lovers. With general director Nele Verhaeren (image 7), a fresh wind is blowing through the exhibition halls, new galleries are attracted and its international character is more than confirmed. For the second time in a row it also opens the doors of Art Brussels for the Kick Cancer (image 8) project. This funds research into childhood cancer and empowers patients and their families. The works is sold anonymously (signed on the back), the artist’s name is only revealed after the purchase of the artwork. Last year, KickCancer raised €107,600!
Yet I permit myself a small remark: the organisation of the event is supported by various committees, juries and advisors. But all the lists lack expertise in the field of photography or audiovisual arts… Can that be changed?
