Arles 2023 : Chateau La Coste : Travels with Andy Warhol

Preview

The site is magnificent, spending a day at Château La Coste, surrounded by vineyards, parks, architectural ensembles, sculptures (monumental or not) is a real treat, for the senses and for the mind. This whole cultural ensemble is based on creation and freedom in the noble sense, supported by constant quality. A little taste of paradise before its time.

The site has five sets of temporary exhibitions. It is in one of these places that a series of forty photographs, on loan from the collection of James R. Hedges, await amateurs and the curious.

Always attracted by photography, Andy Warhol very often walked around with his camera. This allowed him to constantly take photographs wherever he was. This is how a very heterogeneous set of images, like Jacques Prévert’s famous list, shows scenes of high society parties, toilets, personalities, industrial buildings, guests, flowers, etc.

The interest of this umpteenth exhibition about the works of one of the precursors of “pop” creation is the highlighting of his personal and permanent involvement. The exceptional montage of the four photographs that he himself assembled by hand stitching is quite revealing.

In this unmissable site, close to Aix-en-Provence, treat yourself to a day, away from your daily life, to harvest your personal harvest, like this exhibition around the travels of Andy Warhol.
