For its summer exhibition, Anne Clergue Galerie invites you to discover the work of Ferdinando Scianna a Member of Magnum Photos since 1982. Taken from the series on Sicily and Marpessa, these photographs represent a work of true memory, packed with authenticity.
« If I decided to show the work of Ferdinando Scianna, it’s because I consider him to be a master photographer. As a Gallery owner, I feel that my work should focus on unveiling the emerging contemporary scene, but also honor the photographers who made photographic history. The selection we made together in his Milan studio represents, for me, the best of Sciannaa work on Sicily and Marpessa. He produced the prints in his studio.
Fernando Scianna offers us his images of Sicily in the 1960s, with processions during religious festivals, a universe of contrasts in black and white that reflects his culture. In the 1980s, he used a model for the fashion photographs that blend seamlessly with the everyday life of Sicily. Marpessa became a true icon clothed by the most celebrated couturiers. » – Anne Clergue
