For the eighth consecutive year at Arles, Argentic will present a large selection of photographs and books from the gallery’s collection. This year’s selection echoes the festival “parade” with the works of ten contemporary artists: Pierrot Men, Alexandre Godard, Michel Giniès, Bruno de Monès, Stéphane Cormier, Philippe Bréson, Laurent Marois and Patricia Van.
The highlight is perhaps the color photographs of Pierrot Men, a Malagasy photographer. Finely and discreetly composed, his photographs show an amazing ability to marvel constantly at his surroundings in Madagascar. While his photographic world stretched beyond the Indian Ocean, the work of Pierrot Men is inseparable from the “Big Island,” which Men himself admits: “I never photograph better than when it’s something I know.”
