In anticipation of the cultural complex dedicated to the production of art and ideas currently being developed, with American architect Frank Gehry, for the Parc d’Ateliers in Arles, the Luma Foundation has undertaken a programme of exhibitions and works to ensure the continuing dialogue maintained by the foundation with a network of artists and curators.
In July 2012, the foundation produced a new, experimental form of exhibition, To the Moon via the Beach, followed in the autumn by the Altered Earth, Arles, city of moving images exhibition, presented at the Grande Halle. This year, the foundation will mark its presence through an exhibition, coproduced with the Rencontres d’Arles, dedicated to German artist Wolfgang Tillmans. Titled Neue Welt, the exhibition has been curated by Beatrix Ruf, director of Kunsthalle Zürich and a member of the Core Group. The Core Group brings together the artistic advisors of the LUMA Foundation, founded and directed by Maja Hoffmann.
To the Moon via the Beach
At the heart of the Luma Foundation, the Archives continue to be a source of inspiration and a programming initiative anticipating the future cultural complex. These reference resources provide information about and for artists, photographers, art world personalities and exhibition curators. Completed works as well as works in progress are selected to be preserved and studied in the archives, within the cultural complex.
An exhibition retraces the exchange, creation and realisation process of the To the Moon via the Beach exhibition held last year in the Arènes. Soundscapes, documents, snatches of dialogue, interviews, artwork remnants: this presentation, devised by Matthieu Humery, takes a look back at the exhibition that has since disappeared.
