Looking for America
In May 2011, five Magnum photographers – Paolo Pellegrin, Jim Goldberg, Susan Meiselas, Alec Soth and Mikhael Subotzky – and a writer, Ginger Strand, headed for Austin, Texas. Two weeks and 1750 miles later, they arrived in Oakland, California. In 2012, the agency’s photographers chose Rochester (in the state of New York), city of Kodak and Rank Xerox, as a yardstick for the United States a few months out from its presidential elections.
