It’s a web of drawings and images in tones of gray, blue and saturated, flamboyant colors. They punctuate this project and make it innovative.
The pencil is tightly controlled, and ingeniously transforms the photograph. Then a colorful page jumps out. It brings a contrast that proves necessary to break the monotony of classic Manga. This is creation.
Mat Jacob and Monica Santos are in Arles. They are presenting their latest project to a circle of friends. Its codename is “Le manga project” and will take shape in three different media: as a book, as an exhibition, and on the web.
Begun two years ago during a residency in Tokyo in the Tokyo Wonder Site, this project was initially planned for the twentieth anniversary of Tendance Floue as a large format magazine. In the end, the project proved too ambitious and fell through.
