Clic Gallery presents “Show Girl”, Antoine Verglas ’ newest photography book from Gravure. An exemplifier of Verglas’ established mastery over the elegantly sensual image, “Show Girl” voyeuristically trails a vampish Lindsay Ellingson as she inhabits the role of a Las Vegas performer. Kinetic, sequin-lit, and smoky in the mode of high-gloss 1970s fashion editorials, the images in “Show Girl” are a captivating exploration of the day-in-a-life (both on stage and behind closed doors) of a professional chameleon.
New York city based photographer Antoine Verglas was born in Paris, France. He began his career on the other side of the camera, working as the host on a popular French television show after graduating from France’s prestigious E.S.C School of Business. Verglas then had the idea that would be his entree to the fast paced world of fashion photography.
It was then, in 1990 when Verglas moved to New York with his camera and his vision. Pluck and pertinence paid off, with documentary style photo series for French Elle which featured the countries top models. Shooting Stephanie Seymour, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford at home in very personal portraits just as they were reaching celebrity status was his first big break, and indicative of the style which has become the Verglas signature.
This intimate style of capturing the person behind the camera has led to the rapid pace of work Verglas now has shooting for the world’s top fashion magazines. His photographs have appeared internationally in the editions of Elle, Vogue, GQ, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, just to name a few. Starting with such big names, Verglas has to work hard to keep moving forward in a highly competitive field.
