Born in Paris in 1939, André Carrara was interested in photography in his teens. Apprentice in different laboratories, he learned about process and print. He was twenty when he started working as assistant in the advertising agency SNIP, true hive where photographers, illustrators and graphic designers all worked together.He discovered photography meeting Willy Rizzo, Fouli Elia, Guy Bourdin, Jean-Bernard Naudin. In 1963, he produced his first series, a very remarkable campaign for Lacoste. The photographic career of André Carrara was launched. Antoine Kieffer, then artistic director of Vogue France, was impressed by the quality of his black and white photos and gave him a chance. He joined such prestigious photographers, regular collaborators of the magazine as Helmut Newton or Hans Feurer. In the 1990s, at the request of Anna Wintour, André Carrara became a regular contributor of American Allure and other magazines, but is with Marie-Claire (1980-2000), where with art directors Walter Rospert and Fred Rawiler that he made his best stories and photos.
