This collective brings together the talents of three photographers (Vincent Catala, Christophe Caudroy, Julien Mignot), a graphic artist (Camille Rousseau) and a writer (Tanguy Bizien). The group goes to a location assigned by a “master of ceremonies” and quickly creates a piece— a representation, a perspective, an interpretation—bringing images, words, drawings and sound into dialogue.
For the fourth edition of the International Images Festival in Amman, the current French Institute director Charles Henri Gros invited the members of the collective Nous N’Irions Pas Si… (NNIPS) to the ancient city of Salt, Jordan’s former capital. The artists invited the young designer Kim Coiffier, who in turn brought with her the Jordanian sculptor Ahmad Khalifas.
Through each of their talents, and after endless discussions, a possible “portrait” of Salt emerged, adapted to where it will be exhibited in two different places in Amman. The first location is the Zara Center shopping mall, where the collective’s work will be presented through photographs and a screening, which will allow the Jordanian students who served as “fixers” for the piece to share in the result. The second location is the magnificent 1930s home on loan from the generous director of the Dar Al-Anda gallery, Majdoline Al-Ghazawi.
In this home, charged with history, with its colorful, eroding walls and sumptuous tiles, the collective made a fine demonstration of their talents as well as the value of experimentation and risk.
