What Alexis Vettoretti documents in this series of portraits with his father is the long drama of illness. Like many other photographers who have followed the suffering of their loved ones, Vettoretti has chosen, til the very end, to show his subject looking dignified, in intimate moments in the house, on the beach, during meals and, inevitably, on his hospital bed. Unlike others, however, Vettoretti himself appears in each photograph, revealing their relationship, Vettoretti’s care, his help and his fears. What follows is a poignant succession of moments between father and son, some candid but mostly staged, where the presence of the photographer is combined with projections onto a wall or his body.
