Columbia Road Flower Market, London
I don’t know about you, but I love markets. No matter where I travel to, if there is a market – I am there with my camera. A market is typically a noisy place densely crowded with faces, and each face there tells a story.
While in London, I stumbled upon Columbia Road Flower Market, an entire market dedicated to selling flowers. Flowers are a lot like people: each flower’s face has a personality. And every bouquet of flowers tells a personal story… a young man hurrying by with his bouquet, where is he rushing to? Did his wife just have a baby? Mom’s birthday? And people who sell flowers often resemble them. Like the tattooed man selling the cacti – he surely finds beauty in prickly things!
But unlike food or clothes, flowers have no practical use. And yet, they usually accompany some very important events of our lives: a birth, a marriage, a death. Perhaps they feed our souls instead. I hope these photographs will do as well.
