Martijn van Pieterson, Ibasho, Antwerp: Hiroshi Hamaya’s Spear Fishing from the series Ura Niho (Japan’s Back Coast) is a rare vintage print by one of Japan’s foremost photographers. His series Ura Nihon as well as Yukiguni (Snow Land), best representing Hamaya’s interest in the ancient rituals, timeless farming practices and rites of daily life in rural Japan. The image of the spear fisher was made in 1957 and is an unusually large size (38 x 26 cm).
