A.galerie presents the exhibition 90’s on the occasion of the release of the new book by Thierry Le Gouès.
A major player in fashion photography of the 90s, Thierry Le Gouès presents his fifth book “90’S” published by powerHouse Books.
A collection of his best photographs during the emblematic decade of the nineties, a mixture of rebellion and innovation for the fashion industry.
“90’s” is a book dedicated to his fashion work through his various collaborations with Éditons Condé Nast and the great top models of those years who left their mark on an entire generation.
In 1990, Thierry carried out his first collaborations with Éditions Condé Nast (Vogue Italy, L’Uomo Vogue, Glamour, Vogue Hommes), quickly imposing his style: classic compositions, very studied lighting effects through staging cinematographic, sensual and powerful black and white and timeless images.
“90’s” is also a tribute to the many fashion designers, stylists, editors, top models, with whom Thierry has worked, capturing their personalities through his bold vision.
In 1998, he published his first book “Soul”, which would represent what he describes as “his most iconic work”. He exclusively photographed black models posing in a statuesque, nude manner, once again bringing together the star top models of the time Naomi Campbell, Iman, Alek Wek and Georgina Robertson.
His new book “90’s” follows his various works “Soul” (1998 – powerHouse Books), “Popular” (2000 – powerHouse Books) in homage to Cuban culture, “Havana Boxing Club” (2015 – powerHouse Books) and “Amazones” (2005 – French Editions) in homage to Paco Rabanne.
Thirty years later, “90’S” allows a new generation to (re)discover the years that many consider to be the most beautiful in the fashion industry, “the Golden Age.” Thierry returns with this book to where it all began when he chose to take fashion photos and not trendy photos.
Thierry Le Gouès’ photographs have been exhibited in numerous galleries around the world.
Thierry’s view of his models is very particular: imbued with delicacy and empathy, the shots are simple and joyful…. His images are always strong, even the most delicate of them exudes a granite force. …And that’s what we feel when leafing through this book: all the strength and emotion of his talent. – Carla Bruni
