Last year, the photographer Neil Slavin took a group photograph of all the gallery owners at the AIPAD fair in New York. This year, we have decided to photograph everyone individually, one by one. 123 art dealers from all over the world, and everyone was happy to take part. The results are wonderful: smiles, laughter, camaraderie, sometimes self-confidence. It’s quite astonishing, given the troubled market and the anxiety of the stakeholders. Being a gallery owner specializing in photography is a great job. Nowadays, gallery owners no longer sit around waiting for artists to come and seek them out; they are always on the move. A typical gallery owner is above all passionate about photography, and often an excellent historian in his or her own right. This is why we are today paying homage to their world. And of course we include our photographer Julienne Schaer, who spent two days walking up and down the aisles at Pier 94 and then editing her photographs late at night, to wonderful results. One last thing: everyone was worried about the change of venues; we have to say that the 2017 edition of AIPAD looks like a resounding success. Big thanks to everyone!
