The nomadic people of Iran may very well disappear. One hundred years ago, there were five million, but there are only 1.5 million now. They have had to contend with government policies imposing a sedentary lifestyle, the forces of modernization and the harsh climate. They have resisted, but many have ended up living in urban environments, trying to maintain their traditions in a modern world. Some have surrendered, but a minority has refused to give in and continues to lead a traditional nomadic life.
