Zineland usually covers small books, limited editions, and other esoteric projects.
But today we’re going to look at one of today’s biggest fashion photographers: Tim Walker. According to Walker, an exhibition with photos hanging on the walls, “isn’t very interesting.” Since early in his career, he has shaken up fashion photography with his painted animals, pea princesses, and the way he plays with proportions.
Walker’s latest book is Storyteller (Thames & Hudson). It will be hard to forget the images of tents pitched in wooden libraries and films projected onto the walls of a building in the dark countryside.
In the exhibition halls at the Somerset House in London, there are airplanes jutting out of the ground, large dolls and flowery watermelon hats. Walker serves as photographer, decorator and visual artist. These are tales for children, strange and quiet images. Their effect is more than visual.
