It’s so rare, and because it’s so rare, it’s important. The magazine we’re reviewing this week left its impression on us. Saturdays Magazine, the name of a magnificent New York surf shop, imagines—as its name suggests—weekends with several Saturdays in them.
Artists like Christo, Harri Peccinotti, Peter Sutherland, Bruce Weber, Hedi Slimane, Larry Clark and celebrities from the world of surfing, like Tom Curren, show up throughout this hefty A4 tome. Beneath its sleek cover one finds an impeccable layout with remarkable typography. The photographs are given pride of place alongside fascinating, in-depth interviews. The colors correspond to the black-and-white images, a sequence which, while leaving nothing to chance, provides the feeling of fluidity. This is a special-interest zine that should appeal to amateurs and experts alike.
Well done.
