In the style of Erik Kessels, who has catalogued recurring visual objects for the Almost Every Picture collection (KesselsKramer Publishing), The Archives by Claudio Pogo, from the eponymous Berlin publishing collective, traces and exhibits objects of organized violence in five installments: 30 Woman Shooting From Left to Right, 40 Waters Cannon Vehicles Passing By, 25 Nuclear Bomb Explosions, 22 Hand Guns and 22 North Korean Guards Watching. Berlin artist Claudio “Pogo” Pfeifer gathers these blunt images and prints them using a risograph in A4 notebooks with kraft cardstock covers, 16 to 32 pages long.
Consulting them one after the other is to expose oneself, once one is accustomed to the shock of the images, to the absurdity of the mechanisms of coercion at an industrial scale, ad nauseam: sensual bodies armed with rifles but no expression, water cannons in the face of a disabled child, sad nuclear phenomena, North Korean soldiers senselessly peering at things… These mini-archives are mirrors, catalogues of nonsense. One wonders, how will the future judge our mistakes?
