September is the month of the fateful issues, not francophone but international: an issue is an English word, and concerning fashion publications, the September issue is the return to business, the grinding of the sharp blades of the fashion police after a month off; it sets the tone of a new season in fashion.
Let’s therefore, over the forthcoming publications of this chronicle, interest in a few magazines that differentiate, as far as we are concerned.
RE-Edition is one of them. It is published in Belgium by a majority of British people. It is an independent magazine, in an A4 format with a glossy cover, the principle is simple: bringing together inside it, confirmed and aspiring fashion photographers, and especially, new series and photographers’ archives.
In other words, everything in Re-Edition is not new, in the true sense of the word: and from this stems the ambiguity of the title, which perfectly suits to fashion industry and its glances at both revisiting and recycling.
We can see here, a certain lo- fi English chic, to which some famous photographers such as Alasdair McLellan, Harley Weir, Corinne Day, Mark Borthwick, Jim Goldberg have contributed… Re-Edition is a fascinating (and very beautiful) mental spiral where experienced photographers are inspired by the new generation, which invents itself an identity together with them while referring… to a past they have in common. More intuitively, this magazine shall be browsed through like a collection of the imagery of one or more generations which, and this is its major achievement (except the one concerning the industry), already has, since its second issue, the makings of an iconic survey!
