David Schonauer announced in ProPhotoDaily the death of Francoise Bornet, the young lover immortalized by iconic 1950 image of French photographer Robert Doisneau “The Kiss by the Hotel de Ville” at the age of 93. Bornet was a 20-year-old drama student when she and her fellow acting student boyfriend, Jacques Carteaud, were spotted in a cafe by Doisneau, who had been commissioned by Life magazine to shoot a photo story about love in Paris. The image became a 1980s poster phenomenon, bringing fame and court battles. Doisneau, who died in 1994, was always open about having staged the photo.
