Yossi Milo Gallery‘s selection
. Julie Cockburn
The chosen work by Julie Cockburn highlights the artist’s playful process of hand-altering found photographs. In this example, Cockburn obscures the subjects’ faces with yellow embroidery thread.
. Marco Breuer
Rather than use a camera, Marco Breuer, directly interacts with the photograph paper. With the chosen example, Breuer meticulously scratched the surface of the chromogenic paper reveling layers of color.
. Mishka Henner
In his series Less Américains, Mishka Henner reinterprets the seminal photographic series The Americans by Robert Frank (1958) by digitally removing elements from Frank’s original images. Inspired in part by Robert Rauschenberg’s Erased de Kooning Drawing, Henner dissects Frank’s iconic images into layers, allowing the artist to play with texture and shape. The resulting gelatin silver prints reveal hidden forms and details within one of history’s most formative photographic series.
