After 2 years of work that began at the end of the first confinement, Quentin Caffier presents Banquette Arrière (Back Seat) at the Vivienne Art Galerie.
Banquette Arrière is a series of photographic images paying homage to the first experiences of adolescence.
Real couples of all ages, origins or sexual orientation love each other in mythical vehicles, which become less a mean of transport than a place out of time, bubbles of intimacy in which the personal stories of couples are written.
They form small sketches whose viewer tries to trace the story through the clues scattered from one image to another: here two basketball players, opponents on the field but lovers out of sight. There, a hippie hitchhiker seduces a businessman during an unlikely encounter.
They are framed very tightly, the cars are barely recognizable, but a knowledgeable amateur will recognize a 2003 “tuning” Peugeot206, a 1994 Jaguar XJR or the back of a 1950 Ford Pick Up.
Due to the diversity of subjects and eras crossed, the emotion becomes universal: we all have a story that took place in the back seat of a car.”
