The exhibition Clima Tempo, curated by Pedro Agilson, will run through February 9 at the Oi Futuro Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro. The sixty photographs by Vítor Silva show the effects of climate change on the citizens of Rio through street photographs taken over the past eight years.
“Rio has a fickle climate,” says Silva, “which has a direct impact on how its citizens live. This variation affords a great visual richness, as if we were seeing several cities in one.” Silva roamed the famous beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon, as well as the Lapa and Lagoa districts, always finding perspectives far different from a typical tourist’s. “I was looking for original angles and parts of the city only locals would be familiar with,” says Silva. The photographer is known for his photographs of the city published in the Jornal do Brasil, where he worked from 2009 to 2013, publishing several feature stories on the theme of climate and recreation.
Clima Tempo is the 53rd exhibition to be held on the 8th floor of the Oi Futuro center as part of Expofoto. Established in 2003, Expofoto invites all kinds of artists working in many different genres.
The exhibition can also be viewed in their virtual gallery.
