Images is the name of the visual arts festival currently underway in Vevey. The festival, which opened on September 13th, is a gem, probably the most interesting and creative event of 2014. It would be more accurate to call it a biennale because, one the one hand, it’s held every two years, and on the other hand, it reflects the latest trends in photography. More importantly, unlike other festivals, Vevey isn’t just row after row of pictures. Each exhibition is presented differently and in accordance with its subject. At Vevey, the photographs—posters, contact sheets, text messages, copies, prints— aren’t just displayed, they inhabit and transform the space. L’Oeil is going to spend two days covering Vevey, but if you have the time and means to visit in person, do it! You’ll witness a truly modern festival using the technological tools of the 21st century.
