Vendôme 2014

Preview

The Promenades Photographiques de Vendôme opened last Friday. There are three exhibitions that aren’t to be missed: Claude Batho, John Batho and Bernard Descamps. A preview of them is below.

“These photographs are too close, too internal for me to be able to take a distance from them. They’re filled will passing time, children, people and things. I wanted to communicate the feeling of very simple moments, while keeping the silences.” Claude Batho, Le Moment des choses, 1977

“The camera,” says Claude Batho, “is the eye at your fingertips.” Indeed, everything Batho photographs is close at hand: her home, what she sees through the window and along the paths taken on family walks. The result is an intimate, intuitive brand of photography. These are peaceful, reassuring images, “simple moments,” which communicate wisdom and the order of the permanent. The quality of her work and research has made her photographs a part of our cultural heritage.”
