The Festival of Sea Photography was created in 2003. Every Spring, the City of Vannes hosts photographers from every field and offers visitors a trip around the world. The event opens on April 6th, 2012 and presents the photographs in the gardens and at the main historical buildings throughout Vannes. For one month, a vast audience will have the chance to discover the richness and emotion of sea photography.
For the festival’s 8th year, four photographers from the photo collective Tendance Floue (Gilles Coulon, Olivier Culmann, Patrick Tourneboeuf and Alain Willaume) are exhibited at the Esplanade du Port. A fifth photographer from Tendance Floue, Denis Bourges, is exhibited at St. Patern. The photographs of Pierre Jamet are on view at Chateau de l’Hermine alongside the work of Eric Prinvault, the 2011 winner of the professional grant awarded by the festival. The Kiosque Culturel presents a slideshow from Sipa Press, the photo agency, about sea-related news in 2011 and 2012. The external walls of the space host an exhibition of photographs of the Titanic shown for the first time and organized by the Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg.
The images by Tim McKenna and Christophe Martinez, Paul-Emile Victor, Sam Dougados and Vasantha Yogananthan are exhibited outdoors in the gardens of the city. The work by Consuelo le Mire documenting the cargo ships of the Bosphorus Canal is presented at Bastion de Greguennic. Additionally, images by Phillip and Guillaume Plisson are shown on the right bank of the city’s port. Paralleling these fifteen exhibitions, two photographers (Franck Perrogon and Yves Lessart) and three associations and photo clubs from Vannes and the surrounding areas (The Atelier Photo Numerique of the University of Vannes, Contraste, Photo Club of Surzur) are also part of the programming.
