At a time when the temptation to withdraw into oneself has returned, this Gérard Uféras exhibition featuring photographs of 70 marriages in the Parisian region shows that France remains “the land of welcome.” It delivers a simple observation, that we decide to get married by projecting ourselves into the future. A future where our children can follow their dreams safely in a tolerant environment. It shows us how, through this common ritual, all men share the same dreams, regardless of their religion, background or class. The photographs accompanying these stories explore how they met, their expectations, their vision of marriage, painting a diverse portrait of humanity with a shared aspiration: building something together, beyond differences. Intercultural and interfaith marriages still have love in common. Poetic, funny, touching, the photographs are a message of open minds and tolerance. The exhibition is on display in the gardens of l’Abbaye and continues in the town of Daoulas.
