It’s the announcement that the cover of the September issue of American Vogue featuring Beyoncé is shot by Tyler Mitchell. According to sources close the magazine, Beyoncé who was given unprecedented control by Anna Wintour for the flagship issue, handpicked Mitchell, 23.
He is the first black photographer to shoot the cover in the magazine’s 126 year history.
“I depict black people and people of color in a really real and pure way,” Mitchell, who’s campaigns for Marc Jacobs and Givenchy have already been noticed, told The New York Times in December. “There is an honest gaze to my photos.”
The illustration for this post is a screen caption of the short film directed by (and starring) Tyler Mitchell for American Eagle.
