Giorgia Fiorio began a long and profound journey that took her through dozens of countries, Jordan, Syria, Uzbekistan, Iraq … to question the perception of human figuration and the place of the spirituality, and of ancestral rites.
The research carried out is similar to the imaginary memory of a vital confrontation with existence. In this series, she captures the human being in his search, whether religious or not, through the reading of sacred texts, the practice of gestures but also by going to symbolic places, attached to the birth of civilisation and looking for spirituality.
The artist works in ten-year cycles, The gift being the second part of the whole Archeology of being, which began with Des Hommes (of men), a work on the substance of the human figure, of the flesh in movement, made between 1990 and 2000. With the gift, she explores an opaque, almost impenetrable reality. and goes to the heart. The very notion of gift is that of an overcoming, which combines offering and thanks, grace and homage. She tries to photograph the most secret moments, inner and intimate in the relation of the Being in search of its essence.
With The Gift, we move from the individual to the person – the person who carries the whole of humanity. The object of the search is no longer what appears but what is at the center, hidden, invisible. What everyone is looking for and where all actions are directed. A long journey begins again, tortuous, where the only certainty that is imposed is the gift. Because it represents the breath of life and is what remains, after the individual.
