After a period, so to speak, of “calmness”, this late spring in Milan offer photography a priviledge place, this include the opening of new galleries dedicated to it. Thus, Leica Camera Italia has unveiled the new Leica Galerie, situated in an attractive location close to piazza del Duomo in Milan. The opening of the Leica Galerie at via Mengoni 4 (which also host the Leica Store) follows the ones in other major cities all over the world. A central place, indeed, where photography is central (of course), in a suitable context in order to share creativity and experiences. The opening, by the way, takes place while Leica Camera AG is celebrating one hundred years of its history and the birth, with the Leitz Camera by Oskar Barnack, of the 35mm format.
Leica Galerie is going to propose an interesting cultural offer, which will range from exhibitions by acknowledged photographers ,to initiatives dedicated to young authors, from meetings and debates with photographers and courses and workshops organized by Leica Akademie . And for book lovers, there is also a bookshop, while collectors can find a dedicated corner, since many of the images on show can be purchased by the public, with a rigorous certification process. Leica Galerie, for its cultural offerings can count on a network of interesting collaborations, including Contrasto and Fondazione Forma, for organizing exhibitions and publications, and with Magnum Photos, the photo agency created by Henri Cartier- Bresson and Robert Capa in 1948.
And it was Magnum that opened the exhibition program, with “The Right Moment – the choice of the perfect moment in the images of the great Magnum photographers”, with Abbas B&W ,the irony of Bruno Barbey, Jonas Bendiksen landscapes and the images by Werner Bischof, the perfect instant by Henri Cartier- Bresson and the intimacy of the photos of Alex Majoli or Steve McCurry contrasts. The title of the exhibition is quite interesting in itself: it seems to embody the Henri Cartier- Bresson philosophy and its way of recording events according to the thought of the continuous and inexorable change of the reality. Almost quoting the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, Cartier -Bresson proposed a kind of philosophy of “everything’s flowing”: “Nothing is permanent, everything changes from one second to another, and in reportage, which is our logbook, only the moment matters”. It is the decisive moment , strictly connected to the photos of this exhibition, a moment that is the result of a rapid though, and deep study, of the shots that precede the “click ” which synthesizes a whole event in an image .
