After the great success met at the first edition, The Rencontres de la Photographie # Marrakech 2019 will invest the ochre city from October 14 to 20.
These Encounters are presented as a platform for exchanges around photography, based on the various cultural realities of the artists. Indeed, it is photographers from the Maghreb, Africa, Asia and the world who will be invited to participate in this event with exhibitions, screenings, but also with workshops, debates …
For the required discovery of cultures, each edition will present the artists of a guest country, this year Japan, with the support of the Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Government of Japan. The Japanese artist Miki Nitadori has been granted carte blanche to allow the public and photographers to appreciate the works of six contemporary photographers of international renown who represent, she explains, “the potentialities of contemporary photography “. A carte blanche which will also be an opportunity to exchange with the artists about their work. Yuji Hamada, Ken Kitano, Oshima Naruki, Yuki Onodera and Kazuyoshi Usui will be in Marrakech. Miki Nitaori will also represent Risaku Suzuki.
The opportunity to discover a certain facet of Japanese contemporary photography, but also the opportunity for rich exchanges between artists from around the world.
The richness of the programming will allow the clearly displayed will to make the contemporary medium that is photography, a tool of creation, but also of exchange and sharing between various cultures. And while highlighting, Marrakech, its heritage, its creative effervescence and the dynamism of cultural actors. With all these assets, Les Rencontres intend to make Marrakech, a rendez-vous city of the image.
Between artistic need, openness and concern for exchange, Les Rencontres offers a dense program of screenings, exhibitions, portfolios reading , professional mornings in a friendly atmosphere, proposing a complementary offer to major events international photography.
Throughout this week, Les Rencontres intends to offer art, but also time to artists, amateurs and visitors, so that reflections and artistic emotions can flourish. And always with the underlying commitment to support young photography in general and that of Africa and Morocco in particular, by presenting the work of authors on this internationally renowned platform.
