Printed Matter opens tonight the seventh edition of NY Art Book Fair, established as the upstream of a relatively new trend in publishing consisting in the emergence of independent labels, artists-publishers, alternative distribution channels and zines. Since its inception, it has established itself as a barometer of the editorial production and a key event for curators, publishers and other collectors who use the fair as an occasion to announce visionary projects. This year will be an opportunity for Aperture to establish The Photobook Review as a regular publication, next week we will talk about it whith the announcement of the 30 short-listed winners of the Aperture / Paris Photo Book Award. JSBJ will also announce its new entity, Etudes Studio, which is the result of the fusion between JSBJ and the clothing brand Hixsept. The idea is to extend the project shaped since 2007 by the publishing house founded by Aurélien Arbet and Jérémie Egry. The two artists, whose exhibition is also on the walls of the gallery Neon, in Lyon, they are surrounded by new members with original approaches, including Antoine Belekian, Marc Bothorel, José Lamali and Nicolas Poillot. Their aim is to discover and support emerging photographers thanks to the publication of monographs. Three exclusive ones will be presented at the fair. The novelty of the collection is a format that is more formal, with a hardcover woven with blue. The color is reminiscent of the 28 zines they published in the past 5 years. Also new is the number of copies, which rose from 50 to 300, each of those numbered by hand. Nicolai Howalt, Nicolas Hosteing et Daniel Everett are the first releases of this promising collection.
