The Fashion Review by Patricia Nagy

In a tribute to the recent month of Paris Photo, I’m taking you on a trip down memory lane. Several years ago as I strolled through the gallery stands back at the Carrousel du Louvre, I came upon an image that would remain engrained in my mind :  a young couple dancing together, smiling as they looked at the ground in front of them with a beautiful mix of that excitement and shyness of those first moments. I’m convinced a book could be written about them, that moment. I digress.  Yes, yes, I’m talking about Malick Sidibé, the infamous eye behind those natural, unpretentiously intriguing black and white portraits from 1960’s Bamako.

Which is why I found myself smiling in a not so shy manner when I came upon these images by Pierre dal Corso of model Nykhor Paul for Flaunt’s latest issue. A little homage of sorts to Mr. Sidibé in a contemporary (albeit commercial, I admit) way.

Lovely moments are the main focus for Bruce Weber in his shot of Lara Stone and Mark Miller for T Magazine’s Fall issue, while Antonina Petkovic may stumble upon hers soon, in Dusan Reljin’s image for ELLE Serbia’s December issue.

Happy Lindsey Wixon gives off a contagious smile in this shot by Matteo Montanari for Twin magazine’s Winter issue (are you smiling yet?).  But introspection is the mot du jour for Greg Kadel’s image of Alisa Ahmann, as well as Txema Yeste’s moment with Amanda Wellsh, both lensed for Numero France’s October issue.

Color therapy is said to work wonders for changing the spirits, as illustrated once again by Greg Kadel for Vogue Germany’s October issue featuring Valery Kaufman. But nothing beats taking a break under a sunny sky (Paris I love you, but you’re bringing me down. Just kidding), as shown by Natasha Poly for photographer Cuneyt Akeroglu in Turkish Vogue’s October issue.

Getting your groove on by a fence never looked so sexy, as per photographic duo ChuanDo and Frey for L’Officiel Singapore’s November issue with Valentina Zelyaeva, while painting the park red is what Tina Luther manages in Grazia Germany’s latest issue with Anna Emilia Seewald.

In the October issue of ELLE Czech Republic, photographer Branislav Simoncik shows that ladies who walk together stick together, while Fabian Baron observes a more private moment in his shot for Interview magazine’s latest issue of Anja Rubik.  Oops.

A rest after a bit of partying never looked so good, as shown in this photo by Daniele and Iango of Natasha Poly for Exhibition’s latest issue.  Nor did cuddling, in these moments captured by Lachlan Bailey for M le Monde’s October issue of Natalie Westling and Gabriel Marques.

Perspectives can be one sided, as seen by Philip Riches of Rianne ten Haken for The Profile Magazine’s latest issue, but when you’re having as much fun as Steven Meisel shooting Carolyn Murphy in Vogue Italy’s November issue, who cares?

Lauren Hutton has managed to stand the test of time (while having a laugh), as Mariano Vivanco illustrates in this moment shot for Muse 35. And speaking of time, Juergen Teller captures the beauty of it on a woman’s body in these unretouched images of Lara Stone after the recent birth of her child, for System Magazine’s latest issue.

And, just in case you already began your winter hibernation, Jean-Paul Goude enjoyed a glass or two of bubbly with Kim Kardashian and her two bubbles for Paper Magazine’s latest issue.

Here’s to moments, memory lanes and bubbles.  Cheers!
