Sunday, two photographic works by the American artist Andres Serrano were destroyed by hammers by two visitors who managed to escape. Among the two works was one photograph entitled “(Immersion) Piss Christ”, showing a crucifix submerged in the urine of the artist.
The museum housing the works, Collection Lambert in Avignon (Vaucluse) will reopen its doors under police protection, two days after the destruction of the two controversial artistic images, and after one of its employees had received death threats, according to the directors. (AFP)
The two photographs had already been exposed in Avignon and at the Bibliothèque nationale de France without having generated such a reaction.
