The four finalists of the Deutsche Börse Award, organized by the Deutsche Börse Foundation for 21 years now, were announced yesterday. Mathieu Asselin, Rafal Milach, Batia Suter and Luke Willis Thompson are the four selected photographers.
Even though only one of them will be winning, the four finalists will be exhibited at the Photographer’s Gallery in London from February 23 to June 8, 2018, then at the RAY 2018 Photography Triennial in Frankfurt. The final winner will be announced on May 17 in London. He will receive a grant of £ 30,000.
Mathieu Asselin distinguished himself this year with his series Monsanto, a photographic investigation, exhibited this year in Arles. With Refusal, Rafal Milach uses photography to show government tactics and propaganda techniques. Batia Suter’s Parallel Encyclopedia # 2 project is a sequel to her first photographic encyclopedia, produced in 2007. While Luke Willis Thompson, with Autoportrait, permits to think the influence of media in self-representation with the history and the portrait of Diamond Reynold.
