Ziv‘s photographs are a Journey in search of beauty, where no beauty is expected to be found. Perhaps it could be called ’Broken Beauty‘.
The pictures are well choreographed yet the characters are acting the roll of themselves.
They take part in a self-conscious exhibitionist play, which deals with their own identities, representing a social phenomena on the verges of society.
The photographic gaze lies between romanticism and reflecting the essence of the characters.
This takes place in an intimate experiencial encounter between the photographer and the photographed, yet the photographer‘s position seems clear.
In a previous interview, Ziv explained that he was magnetized to the same places over and over, when the camera being both an excuse for the attraction and a protective mask, defending him from merging with the scene. A tool that simultaneously brings closer and far away. Merging and a-parting.
