Zhen Shi, director of Editions, offered to exhibit his series “Genetically Modified Photographs” during the collective exhibition ” Passé en Passant “. The opportunity to discover his photomontages and his new images “INK” (black inking on anonymous photographs)
Zhen Shi will exhibit his Kwei Yin series, as well as a selection of Z House books.
Genetically Modified Photography: As a picture-cutting Frankenstein, I wish to create an artificial being from an assemblage, not made of corpses – though most people appearing in the pictures have certainly died long ago – but anonymous pictures, abandoned by their owners, or their descendants.
My “monsters” come to life, in a traditional and surreal way.
Kwei Yih is a project that is rooted in the personal experience of the artist. After years of a homeless life away from home, Zhen Shi fell into a state of anxiety and helplessness, and wanted to regain that lost sense of belonging. A complex feeling, where nostalgia and homesickness mingle to become happiness; where her homeland remains forever in her heart, peacefully.
