The three artists whose works are presented in this exhibition all share the tendency to transgress photography’s codes of beauty, with the aim of getting us to reconsider our view of politics.
In his series Protokoll, Christian Lutz has chosen to ignore the historic moments in a politician’s career and focus instead on everyday political activity. With a sense of detail tinged with irony, Lutz reveals what happens behind the scenes, explicating the rules and codes of the political world.
Bruno Arbesú and Jean-Robert Dantou offer viewers the chance to take a step back. Although political rallies are designed to give viewers a partial (in both senses of the term) experience of the event, these two photographers strive to offer us a more comprehensive vision. Their photographs help us decrypt the visual factors that orchestrate of the passions and production of popular support.
