The second opening party of St Barth Photo Festival 2021 will unveil the exhibition By The Pool by Greg Lotus, at the Christopher Hotel on November 25th.
Following on from the opening party of Ellen von Unwerth at the Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France the night before, visitors will enjoy on Thanksgiving Day a selection of eleven images of the American photographer.
In keeping with the island’s theme, the exhibition presents a series of photographs that celebrate high fashion by the pool. Each image is infused with a strong sense of refinement and sophistication, featuring carefully choreographed scenes which often use the physicality of the body as a means of expression by drawing on themes of sport such as swimming and aerobics. Lotus’ captivating images portray worlds of perfection with their highly polished and meticulously posed models, yet after closer study the images reveal their imperfections, playing with the viewer’s sense of reality.
Greg Lotus, represented by The Selects Gallery at the event, is a frequent contributor to publications such as, Vanity Fair, GQ, L’Uomo Vogue, W magazine and Italian Vogue, having been given his first big break by the late Franca Sozzani herself in 2004. Similarly, to his opening night forerunner, Ellen von Unwerth, Lotus too began his early career as a model and quickly turned his interest behind the lens.
As the St Barth Photo Festival 2021 continues, each opening night unveils a new realm of visual language with artists who all have a very different approach to Fashion Photography and offers an opportunity to immerse into each artist vision.
